17th Annual World FireKnife Championships
The Polynesian Cultural Center, one of Turtle Bay Resort’s North Shore neighbors, has announced that its 17th World Fireknife Championships will be held the 14th through the 16th of May. So here is an idea….if you are a local resident of Hawaii, join Turtle Bay Resort’s Escape Club and enjoy your free night relaxing at Turtle Bay Resort after watching an unbelievable evening of fiery competition. If you are visiting from outside Hawaii make sure you add it to your list of must things to do.
For those who have never attended the World Fireknife Championships before, picture this: actual knifes, on fire, twirling around the competitors at lightening speed to the rhythmic beat of live Polynesian drums. Yes, they get burned. Yes, they occasionally get hurt. And oh yes, do they ever put on a show! Its really hard to film because its too dark for cameras, but you can get a pretty good idea of what is in store for you by checking out the YouTube video of Mikaele Oloa, finalist from 2008′s Championships, located at the bottom of this post.
