Giving Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving in the United States of America is a time of feasts. Families typically go all out to produce a celebration featuring what we in Hawaii call “choke food” (lots and lots of food). But for many, especially in our current economic climate, the means to produce such a feast does not exist. With all the fanfare going on this week with the Triple Crown of Surfing and its tents, throngs of people, etc., we needed to stop and remember that difficult times are no stranger to many along the North Shore.
So we stopped and remembered…and then we did something about it.
Following a long standing tradition (we were actually not able to find exactly how long ago this started) Turtle Bay Resort joined with St. Michael School (which decorated the facility), the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station in Helemano (which provided manpower to set up, serve, and clean up the event), and the Waialua Community Association to provide a thanksgiving feast for an estimated 300 people who otherwise would have gone without.
The kitchens were working in the wee hours of the morning, preparing dozens of turkeys with all the trimmings for a wonderful feast that was served by Navy personnel. There was live entertainment as well.
Turtle Bay Resort is managed by Benchmark Hospitality International, which encourages “Hometown Hospitality“. Hometown Hospitality represents the unwavering service commitment of Benchmark employees to its communities. Today’s service is part of who we are as caring for our communities is not a pastime but our passion. Happy Thanksgiving!
