Lights, Camera, Action, & Action…

Special Effects Tropical Storm at Turtle Bay PoolWhat an amazing weekend! One production company in house is usually a big deal…but five plus a big convention group at the same time? The Benchmark Hospitality staff at Turtle Bay Resort kicked it into overdrive and pulled it all off.

First there was Tool of North America doing a Capital One commercial for the Canadian marketplace. The key special effects personnel arrived the week before the shoot in order to design, plan and create a tropical storm. (It had to be created bTurtle Bay Resort Pool After Tool of North America Shootecause such storms are actually extremely rare at Turtle Bay). As if that alone was not enough of a challenge, Turtle Bay Resort was demanding that they start after 8 am and that the pool be back open for guests, as if nothing had happened, by 10 am. Tool North America rose to that challenge and people enjoying the pool after 10 am would have had no idea what had happened there just an hour before.

With 880 acres of land, Turtle Bay Resort is the ideal place to get LOST (sorry, we just could not resist putting that one in, but there was also here a location scout for LOST). REI had a crew of about 20 people plus talent shuttling to and from the resort all day.

At the same time the philanthropy department at Brigham Young University Hawaii was filming a video they will be using in the future as part of their fund-raising efforts for scholarships for those most in need.

REI Catalogue Shoot at Turtle Bay ResortAt the same time Company Films was conducting their final tech scout in preparations for their filming of another Capital One television commercial for the United States market, which will be filmed on Wednesday. (You know, after a tropical storm, pigs actually sound quite reasonable).

While all this was going on, Dow AgroSciences was in house, holding a conference.

Each group needed meals, needed set-ups, and needed rooms. The end result was a completely sold out (100% occupied) resort. All we can say is “it was a great day at Turtle Bay”.
