Half Pipe at Turtle Bay Resort?

First there were the rumors running up and down the North Shore of Oahu. Next there were actual sightings. Facebook, Twitter and text postings then began to circulate that included pictures. It didn’t take long before local skateboarders started showing up to ride the new half pipe that had been erected next to Turtle Bay Resort’s pool. Only problem…it was constructed to be part of a movie set for Soul Surfer and it was not open for public boarding.

The guests of the hotel started claiming their chairs as early as six in the morning on Friday in order to get front row seats. They were not disappointed. Professional movie stunt riders entertained the crowds for hours as filming continued throughout the day. The half pipe was also an integral part of a scene in the movie where a top ranked skateboarder is (we can’t say more, you’ll have to wait until the movie is released early next year).

The set, put together on site over a two-day period, will be dismantled and the pool returned to normal as if nothing had ever happened early Saturday morning. All that will remain is hundreds of feet of priceless film and the memories the guests will have of being able to watch a small piece of Hollywood magic being made.
