Take the Wheel

Carrie Underwood Some Hearts CD CoverThere is a lot of excitement in the air this weekend. The big story obviously is the National Football League’s Super Bowl XLIV, featuring the New Orleans Saints vs. the Indianapolis Colts. Some people tune in for the game. Others tune in for the commercials, watching the results of companies spending millions of dollars to hook us with the latest and greatest product. Some people Soul Surfer Films Bethany Hamilton Rescue at Turtle Bay Resort 2will tune in just for the entertainment before the game and during half time. Still others will be tuning in just to see international legend Carrie Underwood sing the National Anthem before kick-off. The busy star told CMT that she is “going to be extremely nervous”. After all, more people will be watching her on Sunday than watched her during her final showdown on American Idol. For the woman who sings “Jesus Take The Wheel“, divine help should not be far away.

Approximately 5,000 miles to the west in the lands surrounding Turtle Bay Resort, over the same weekend Brookwell McNamara EnterSoul Surfer Films Bethany Hamilton Rescue at Turtle Bay Resort 1tainment will be finishing the filming of one of the most famous shark attack and rescue scenes in the world (photo above right and left), that of Bethany Hamilton, who personally believes that Jesus definitely took the wheel during and after the attack. Those familiar with the details of the rescue would be hard pressed to argue otherwise.

What do these two events have to do with each other? Rather than “going to Disneyland” after the Super Bowl, Carrie Underwood will be catching a flight to Hawaii and taking the short trip to the North Shore, to Turtle Bay Resort, to take her part in Soul Surfer, the movie based on Bethany’s ordeal as filming continues for the next several weeks. Carrie will play the part of Sarah, a youth minister, who helps Bethany find her way through the very dark periods she experienced after the attack.

The cast includes Golden Globe nominee Dennis Quaid (as Bethany’s father Tom), Academy Award winner Helen Hunt (as Bethany’s mother Cheri), Young Artist Award winner AnnaSophia Robb (as Bethany Hamilton). It also includes includes Lorraine Nicholson (as Alana Blanchard) and Kevin Sorbo (as Holt Blanchard).
