Tsunami Warning Canceled

A large earthquake hit Chile very early Saturday morning Chilean time of such magnitude that much power was sent into the Pacific Ocean. After several buoy sites were tripped (indicating large wave activity) the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii.

In response, Turtle Bay Resort’s Chief of Security implemented the planned  program. Employees were called to their stations throughout the early morning hours Hawaiian time. The information coming from the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Service and the Department of Civil Defense were carefully monitored and all their recommendations complied with. We are pleased to report that no damage nor injury was sustained.

Turtle Bay Resort is a private shelter and it is prepared for such natural disasters. We are very thankful that this became an additional training exercise and not an actual emergency. Thanks Chief and staff for a job well done!

Our hearts and prayers go out on behalf of those in Chile who were not so fortunate.
