New Birth at the Stables

Tuesday, April 20, 2010, Sophie began the labor process. Alicia, the Manager of The Stables at Turtle Bay Resort and her staff had been doing round the clock vigils for days, carefully monitoring Sophie for the signs  of the impending birth. The process then seamed to stop…but with the embryonic fluids already released, Alicia new she had to do something, she just didn’t know what.

She called one of her friends from the big island of Hawaii and asked what to do. Alicia then spent the next hours, cell phone held between her shoulder and her ear so she could have both hands free, giving the required aid as instructed. At 7:15 pm, a young filly entered the world and as she was exposed to the evening air, she shivered. Alicia thought that was the perfect name for her new horse…and so Shiver was born.

The Stables at Turtle Bay Resort also recently added two new horses to its working line up, Heapo, a 9 year old gelding and Nick, a 12 year old gelding. Both Heapo and Nick are currently going through their new hire training program, learning the trails and adjusting to their new home on the North Shore of Oahu.

Drop by and take a look. Better yet, call (808) 293-6000 and sign up for a trail ride. More information on rides and prices is here.
